Makeup LOVE

I LOVE makeup!  Many people don't know this, but I went to school to learn cosmetic arts!  I have since revisited that love and am now starting to take it up again.  I feel so 16!  You know, I write that a lot.  Maybe I am 16.  I certainly feel like it most of the time.  Hm.. reminds me of an interview I watched once with Olivia Newton John. Someone asked her if she felt her age.  She said no, that she felt around 16.  I get it...

I really enjoyed doing that Cleopatra video and plan on making more makeup tutorials.  When I was researching Egyptian makeup looks, I came across this fabulous picture of Liz Taylor.  She took the Cleopatra look and made it contemporary.  I rocked this for my birthday.  Beautiful.

Freaking Stunning!

Ashtanga LOVE!

I LOVE Ashtanga Yoga.  I learned it years ago from my fabulous friend Katie Mcclelland of De La Sol Yoga Studios and stopped when she moved back home to Hamilton, Ontario.  She had a great following here and man do I miss her!
I have begun my "Lady of Rage" workouts again, to look great of course, but mostly to elevate my mood and am thinking that I need to "Om Out" as well for some balance.  I stopped my yoga practice when Katie left because I became a kind of "Katie snob" and once you get trained by one person, its hard to go to another teacher (kinda like switching hairdressers) but its time to take the plunge.  I'll always be grateful to my Katie though for teaching me this beautiful Yoga.  Heres a wicked pose of Katie and her boyfriend, who is also a yoga instructor.  HAWT!  :)

Oh yeah, I can do that;)

So cute - You guys need to rewrite the Kamasutra:)

HAHAHA! Um...Maybe not so funny...

I went to this audition a while back and had the most interesting run-in with  a "new actor".

Now the great thing about this profession is that you can be a "new" actor and it have nothing to do with age.  I mean, you might think when I say new actor" I'm referring to a young person, but this "newbie" must have been about 70.  If I recall correctly, this audition was a call for a family.  Complete with grandparents.  If casting can't find a real family, they make one up by casing some unknowns together that look like they might be related.  Anyway, for the Caucasian category, in waltzed a grey haired dude looking quite cocky.  I was minding my own business and listening to my hand held tape recorder because I had a film audition after this one and I needed to go over my lines, so I was very focused and non-chatty.  Well guy comes over and sits right beside me (there were plenty of chairs elsewhere) and starts staring at me.  I look at him questioningly (do I know you?) and he smiles.  I give him a dismissal smile back and turn my attention back on my lines.  I feel him profiling to stare more intensely and can sense that he wants to make conversation, so I begin to wordlessly recite/lip-sync my lines so that Mr. Mature gets the message that I'm freaking studying.  Then I feel the tap on my shoulder.  I pop out one earbud and he begins giving me the 3rd degree.  "I'm new at this....only my third commercial audition...how long have you been doing this?..can you recommend any good teachers...what commercials have you done....who is your agent? ...mine is Smith Talent, do you think their good???...where are you from, Africa? ...no? England? OH SO AM I...where in England??....yada, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah".  After every question I politely put back in my earbud and he, not getting the message, moves closer to me and talks loudly into my ear regardless.  Finally I put my recorder away, I'm going in next anyway and he happily chats on.  I can see some yellowing in his teeth and I think, "if you wanna be an actor you better get that fixed bub".
So I get ready to go into my audition and before I do, he quickly asks for my email address so he can email me some more acting questions.  I always like to help out a newbie, so I comply.  After my audition, I b-lined it to the washroom to change for my next one and saw him looking at me.  He waved goodbye and I ran outta there!
The next day I get this email from him:

Hi Suzanne - how r u?  Ok, I know.  Any " cool " guy worth his salt would wait the mandatory week, maybe 2 - before getting in touch  ( LOL ).  Guess I am not that cool ( !! )
Anyhow, I am going to be so bold as to suggest that us two Brits ( and Londoners at that ! ) get together sometime soon . . . today I have off ( Friday ). I work this weekend both Sat and Sun - but am usually off by 8 - 9 p.m. as a P.A. So either of those evenings could work.
And I am off Monday and Tuesday before starting work again on Wed.
So do let me know when you are " free " over the next few days and I hope we can get together for drink/movie?
Open to suggestions. Why don't you email me some pics in the meantime - I would like that, and I will reciprocate. Promise!
I already know some important things about you.
First, that you are a very genuine and kind person - could tell by the way you took my hand. And well - not everyday that I get to meet a very pretty black girl like you ( !! ) Don't have too much time for these skinny-ass white girls. I guess we are all wired a little bit differently, aren't we?
By the way - got a very brief ( unfortunately ) peek at you in your blue jeans after you changed. You have a lovely ass, just so you know ( !!! )
Talking way tooooooo  much ( ! )
Be in touch.
Cheers, Graham

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAA! LOVE!!
OH DEAR GOD, PRICELESS!!!!  THIS GUY IS NUTS!!!! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAA!

Oh, man!  I kept this email in my mailbox for a good laugh.  And its just as potent as the first time I got it!!! Oh he is so Grey Gardens!
"Blue Jeans"?  Hahhaa!  "Skinny ass white girls"  Hahahha!  Check out those weird exclamation marks in brackets!  Hahahaha! Oh yeah, Graham, your the man of my dreams! I loove you. How bout I come home with you since we are wired the same. Bahahaha!  Class Mr. Geriatric, Class!  Geez, you would think that with all the experience he has had living on the earth he would have learned something!  Hahahha!

This is not him, but it kinda looks like him....hehe

ModCloth Style - LOVE

ModCloth rocks!  I feel so retro when I peruse that sight.  I so want some of their dresses.  I'm gonna order some suits so I can feel all Mad Men in my bland office jobs where everyone is so generic.
I LOVE old movies.  Always have.  Stars were so beautiful and glamours going to bed in all that makeup and waking up with perfectly coiffed hair and lipstick. Why couldn't real life be like that?  Wouldn't if be fabulous to wake up like that after a first sleep over with a boyfriend? Marilyn, Rita Hayworth, the stunning Ava Gardner (why???) and beautiful Dorthy Dandridge.  That's my idea of sexy!  Britney, you have been schooled.

I've decided, I'm going to do a retro photoshot!  Why the heck not.  A girls gotta have some fun. Its not like I'm going to get that extra part I'm missing to my time machine anytime soon.  (Funny Guy said he had a drawer full of them, but then we broke up so guess I'll never get that Flux Capacitor any time soon) Watch for it in the upcoming weeks.  In the meantime, I'm going to dream about this dress.

A Bit of Valentines Cheer - Single? Got D'Angelo

Well, its "Dark Day".  Thats right, for us singletons this is the most unfabulous day of the year.  Why oh why?  Dry sheets again!  Sigh. As you all know, I do like me some Maxwell, but when I want to have some good ol dirty naughty thoughts, I love me some D'Angelo.  Ah, the single name heart throbs.  Maxwell, I want to marry, D'Angelo I want to...well...have a little chat with;)  Might as well send myself over the edge.  All you single ladies and single (happy) gentlemen, lets watch this and weep into the egyptian cotton.  If I'm going to be miserable, I might as well go all the way.  D'Angelo, take me away.....

My Video Birthday Dinner- LOVE!!!

VIDEO
The Best (Most Hysterical) Birthday Dinner Ever!

LOVE

Lunch Venue: Burgoo for the afore mentioned detectable decedent grilled cheese sandwich. Unfortunately no truffles, but I made love to it and some amazing tomato soup anyway. Dear God its so freaking good. Thank you Burgoo! FG was supposed to meet me and came late. He's the guy with the head down (you can finally get a glimpse) (yes we are still no longer but we made a plan months ago to share this cheezy goodness) The pretty blonde in the picture is my dear friend Tammy. She got me a bottle of my bubbly! A first! I bet she never would have thought she would ever be in a liquor store getting me anything of the sort!
Dinner Venue: Rodney's Oyster House, Vancouver (delish!)
In Attendance: Nolan, Katie, Natana, Wayne, Michelle, Entire Asian Olympic Team, Surprise Acting Student and Entire (hot male and extremely friendly) Staff of Rodney's
What I was Wearing: Forever 21 Dress, Aldo Boots, Fabulous Necklace which spelled "Suebass" (gift from Nolan), New Scabby Tattoo (gift from Katie)
Most Hysterical Moment #1. Wayne's yearly, yet always tear streaming down my face funny, impersonation of an ex-boyfriend of mine who cried once while he and I were making... well you know what I'm talking about.
Most Hysterical Moment #2. Using a spoonful of seemingly innocent condiment on a raw oyster then finding out it was called "Fire of Hell in a Bottle". (hence the picture of my drinking milk to scorch out the excruciating flame in the back of my throat. More tears streaming down my face.
Most Hysterical Moment #3. An interesting happenstance (I like to use that phrase at least once a year)...a student of mine was having dinner there too and not knowing I don't drink hard liquor nor do I partake in coffee, ordered me some nasty vodka and expresso shooter. The entire restaurant (I ain't kidding) started to call my name and clap in synchronicity until I drank the foul stuff. I finally did against my will, and they went ballistic. I repressed the urge to spit it on the floor and took it like a champ. How can you guys drink that stuff? Gross! Medicine! Geez! Look at Nolan's face in the pictures! He LOVED it!
On the menu: Raw Oysters, Halibut with veggies, Some kinda steak, Shrimp Cocktail, Fried Oysters, My favorite bottle of Asti (Michele) that I should be drinking every day. Nectar friends! Who cares its only 5% alcohol! And THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE EVER from Capers. All natural organic ingredients and truly the most scrumptious cake made on the planet.

Ahh, I was in heaven. And I wasn't even going to do anything this year, which would have been a first in my entire life. Going through intense times, but man, I'm so glad I did. A small get together, Nolan and Katie were visiting from out of town but I laughed so hard my seat was on fire! Hahaha! My friends are the absoulte best! What would I do without them.

Hey Look What The Universe Sent Me:)

Happy Birrrrthday to Youuuu,
Happy Birrrrthday to Youuuu,
Happy Birrrrthday Dear Suzanne,
Happy Birrrrthday to Youuuu!

A few years back, not so long ago, heaven and earth erupted into a major celebration with the news of your impending adventure into this very time and space. You see, someone like Suzanne Bastien doesn't come along all that often. In fact, there's never been a single one like you, nor is there ever ANY possibility that another will come again. You're an Angel among us. Someone, whose eyes see what no others will EVER see, whose ears hear what no others will EVER hear, and whose perspective and feelings will NEVER, ever be duplicated. Without YOU, the Universe, and ALL THAT IS, would be sadly less than it is.

Quite simply:

You're the kind of person, Suzanne,
Who's hard to forget,
A one-in-a-million
To the people you've met.
Your friends are as varied
As the places you go,
And they all want to tell you
In case you don't know:
That you make a big difference
In the lives that you touch,
By taking so little
And giving so much!

Suzanne, you are so AWESOME! For your birthday, friends and angels from every corner of the Universe, including buddies you didn't know you had, will be with you to wish you the HAPPIEST of days and an exciting new year in time and space. You won't be alone!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Suzanne!

Orlando, Florida, USA

PS - Suzanne, this is going to be YOUR year!!

Photoshop LOVE!

I ADORE photoshop! Truly it was LOVE at first mouse click! Ahhh, the things I could do! Worlds I could change. To be in complete control if only on paper...or computer....I'll take it. I've manipulated a ton of photo images for fun and inspiration. Put my face on other bodies (thinner of course - always a favorite), put myself in Ancient Indian Palaces (one day ahhh), had myself kissing Maxwell and other hot GQ models! I've even made a picture of me holding me.

Several years ago I saw a video of Janet Jackson's "Together Again". Remember that one with her all Africaned out, running around with cougars and elephants (lyrically a lame song but visually rocked! Funky, ethnic, stylish, clothes. Actually the styling in that video really appealed to me..) and doing really bad choreographed dance moves? Well, there was this one image that knocked my socks off. This one!

Janet Jackson Loving Janet Jackson

I gotta tell you, it really effected me. Seriously. I've believe that true love comes to and from oneself then spreads out from there. To be able to give of yourself you have to give to yourself and this is the truth to me. So to keep myself remembering this, I created an image so that I won't ever forget to keep my heart open. Let me tell you, its easy to forget. Especially after watching top model or eating so much Indian food in one sitting that you swear you might give birth to a baby calf. (eww, what an image!) Anyway, check out my version below.

Today is my Birthday!  I thought it would be fitting.

This is Me in a Fabulous Blue Dress - LOVE

When I first saw this candid of Bee walking through an airport, I thought girlfriend never looked better.  She seemed so bougie I said, "man your fabulous"!  Those shades, probably no eye makeup under there.  Actually her skin looked so paint free she kinda seemed normal.  Well, normal for someone with flawless skin.  The bag, the shoes, her half smiling face.  Simply oozes the rich jet setter.  I LOVE the color.  The fit, the movement, the relaxed attitude, it seemed so casually chic, I wanted to kill myself!  I FREAKING WANT THAT DRESS!!  I've searched for it every time I happened past a fancy dress shop.  (sigh) Another birthday wish.  Anyone know where I can get it?  No?  No matter, probably ridiculously expensive.

Uh huh...WORK IT!

See, I look just as Fabulous!  Hehehe!
I'm using this for my vision board!

February: The LOVE Month

“The Kiss by the Hôtel de Ville,” taken in Paris in 1950. (Photo: Robert Doisneau)

I've always been interested in love.  Always.  I even have a strong memory of asking for "television kisses" when I was a little girl.  I thought nothing in the world can be better than being in love and kissing. I'm a sucker for love!  I have held on to that dream all my life and indeed it has motivated my every move.  If I see a couple holding hands or kissing, I'm riveted.  If I see a mother talking lovingly with respect to her child, my head does a Linda Blair as I walk by.  If I see friends talking intensely, or one comforting another, my heart pulls like its coming out of my chest and all is right in the world.  I realize I look for signs of love all the time.  I dream of love, fantasize about love.  Watch movies, listen to music, pour over books and study the biology of love.  Its no surprise really that I was born in the month of love.  February 8th is my birthday and everywhere around me I see nothing but red.  I was born in a red, passion, love month.  *Its ironic that I'm single don't you think?   My passion for romantic love aside, I am just as fascinated in love in all its other forms.   Love of family, love of brotherhood, religious love, love of animals...everything!  And yes of course I'm not embarrassed to say it, love of FOOD.  Food glorious food. (that line is to be sung) And am I blessed to be able to enjoy it.  Believe me I give thanks for that one everyday. For most of us, I would say the most accessible in my books.  I can get some really good loving for about a buck.  Mrs. Vicki's Jalapeno chips, or a bag of Maltesers.  Which was my first real love (next to my mummy of course - but thats a given).  Ahh, Maltesers, I can hear my tiny British voice asking my mum, "can we go to the shops to get some sweets mummy?"  Maltesers.  And although I don't partake very often these days, it still has lost none of its charm:)

I had a friend ask me what I wanted for Christmas last December.  I told her I would tell her later and never did.  I always thought it weird to say what you would like as a gift.  I mean, I always held the idea that its the thought that counts, but really, it is pretty cool if their thoughts match your wish, so let me give you one of (a zillion) wishes for my birthday.  First let me say, I've never tried this, but feel if I did, it would be LOVE at first bite.
Be Patient and get through Karen in the Commercial
Thats right people, Grilled Cheese with Truffles...Oh Dear God!

I am going to have a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch on my birthday as a special treat. (grilled cheese sandwich containing a excessive amount of delicious greasy carbby delight - which of course is the bane of every actresses existence) I wonder if I brought in some shaved truffles they would agree to making  this for me.  I mean, some people bring their own wine.  Why can't I bring some truffles? Bread in this demo is a bit too thick, but I would not say "no thanks man" to that decadent delight.
By the way, the best grilled cheese sandwich in all of Vancouver hands down is Burgoo!

*Yes, its true, funny guy and I turned the last page of the book.  "The End".  Nice story, too bad there isn't a series. (sigh)
